All Day Meat Sauce or Marinara
INGREDIENTS
PRODUCE
1 yellow onion, diced
2 tbsp minced garlic
2 cups sliced mushrooms (optional)
1 bunch fresh basil
DAIRY
Shredded Parmesian cheese
MEAT
3 lbs ground Italian sausage (omit for Marinara sauce)
PANTRY
28 oz tomato paste
28 oz diced tomatoes
28 oz tomato puree
1 bottle of red wine
1-2 tbsp salt
1-2 tbsp Italian seasoning blend
Black pepper
Crushed red pepper flakes
1 lb spaghetti, cooked
DIRECTIONS
In a skillet, sauté diced onion over medium heat. Add meat and cook until browned. If using mushrooms, add in a few minutes before meat is finished cooking.
In a stock pot, combine tomato paste, diced tomatoes, tomato puree, minced garlic, and wine. Mix thoroughly.
Add cooked meat, onions, and mushroom to stock pot, and bring to a simmer.
Season with salt and Italian seasoning to taste.
Allow to simmer for at least two hours. Four hours is ideal.
Serve over spaghetti noodles and garnish with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese.
