All Day Meat Sauce or Marinara

 

INGREDIENTS

PRODUCE

  • 1 yellow onion, diced

  • 2 tbsp minced garlic

  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms (optional)

  • 1 bunch fresh basil

DAIRY

  • Shredded Parmesian cheese

MEAT

  • 3 lbs ground Italian sausage (omit for Marinara sauce)

PANTRY

  • 28 oz tomato paste

  • 28 oz diced tomatoes

  • 28 oz tomato puree

  • 1 bottle of red wine

  • 1-2 tbsp salt

  • 1-2 tbsp Italian seasoning blend

  • Black pepper

  • Crushed red pepper flakes

  • 1 lb spaghetti, cooked

 
 

DIRECTIONS

  • In a skillet, sauté diced onion over medium heat. Add meat and cook until browned. If using mushrooms, add in a few minutes before meat is finished cooking.

  • In a stock pot, combine tomato paste, diced tomatoes, tomato puree, minced garlic, and wine. Mix thoroughly.

  • Add cooked meat, onions, and mushroom to stock pot, and bring to a simmer.

  • Season with salt and Italian seasoning to taste.

  • Allow to simmer for at least two hours. Four hours is ideal.

  • Serve over spaghetti noodles and garnish with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese.
